Addressing users in IBM Notes

Today I had an issue, where a customer told me the following problem:

User A has his employee ID P146 in the Short Name of the person document in the Domino NAB. But if a user users this ID in the “To” field of a new mail, he receives the error, that the user is not unique, when he presses F9 for name resolution.

A look in the “($Users)” view showed, that there are 2 entries with this employee ID. In the first person document this looked fine, but in the second person document you can´t find this ID ( P146 ) anywhere. Also took a look with scanEZ, but this did not solve anything.

Some investigations later I found the “trouble” >> ever heard from “Soundex” ???

Try the following: enter @soundex(“Lastname, Firstname”) in the subject line of a new mail:

And now after pressing SHIFT-F9:

This is the so called “Soundex”, which also is listed in the “($Users)” view in the Domino NAB. But if you have another employee with the ID “B653” you would receive the error, that the user is not unique when pressing F9.

So it´s working as designed…

Sync database quotas between servers

Today I again had the issue, that Database Quotas have not been synced between IBM Domino Cluster servers. After some search, I found the following post:

I did some modifications in the code and ran the agent with the Server ID and scheduled the agent one time a day… So far it´s looking fine…

Resolve synchronisation issues after upgrade to IBM Notes Traveler 9.0.1.18

IBM Notes Traveler 9.0.1.18 has the new feature to access the users mail server with the same rights as the user. But if you forget to add the IBM Notes Traveler server to the field “Trusted Servers” in the server document of the Mail Server, you receive the following errors:

An exception occurred when opening database /user.nsf using user shortname CN=John Doe /O=IBM in order to retrieve changed documents. Exception information: Throw: TASK_PROFILE_OPEN_DB

*** Content Adapter Exception *** ERROR 23 (ERR_DATABASE_ERROR) — Debug Info ————: Database cannot be opened with status of 0x17eb. Server=database=mail/user.nsf
INFO Mntr-0a78[Master]John Doe dna.cpp.jniDoesDatabaseExist#8427 Internal Error: Debug Data: Could not open Database=’mail/jdoe.nsf’ on server=’ PathName=” for user ‘CN=John Doe /O=IBM’. Error(17eb)=You are not listed as a trusted server 

You can easily get rid of those errors either by:

  • disable the new feature by setting the following NOTES.INI entry on the IBM Notes Traveler Server
    • NTS_USER_SESSION=false
  •  Add the IBM Notes Traveler Server to the “Trusted Servers” field of the Mail Server in the second tab “Security”

 

Enforcing quotas on new mail or Calendar entry creation in local or server based mail files

Last week I had the request to obtain the quota on the mail file when creating local replicas. After some search, I found this NOTES.INI entry:

This setting is not only used when creating local replicas, but also to check the quota when creating new mails !!
